Asana Classes

Purna Yoga asana is alignment based in the tradition of the great Master of asana B.K.S Iyengar with refinements from the work of my teachers Aadil Palkhivala and Savitri. With attention to  safety, we work with awareness and breath to create a new body for tomorrow. Our bodies often hold our emotions and we work to open and release, align and strengthen and rejuvenate.

Classes offer flowing and held poses, brief meditations, poetry and inspiration, applied philosophy as well as lifestyle and nutrition tips.

We work through flows, standing poses, inversions, twists and backbends in various classes. We use various props as needed as well as our wall rope system.

Any particular class is custom for the individual and gives students what they need in the moment. It is not unusual for me to have a class plan but then totally change direction to be able to give the student what they need in that moment. The asana thus serves the student and not the other way around. Perfect bodies and perfect poses are for the cover pages of magazines. Our lives demand so much more from our bodies and it is my goal to help the student feel more alive and to want to come back for more.

Heartfull® Meditation Class

My meditation classes offer heart centered techniques that are created by the deep inner work and dedication of my meditation teacher Savitri. They are designed to help the student form and deepen their connection with their soul. In our ever changing lives, we often lack guidance and direction. This class will help the student tap into their inner wisdom. We will call light around the body to help keep it protected. Meditation techniques are dynamic and we use the movement of our arms and hands and the breath to create a deep focus. The practitioner experiences sense withdrawal (Pratyahara), contemplation (Dharana), meditative focus (Dhyana) and deeper inner states as they are ready.

Restorative Yoga Class

My restorative classes begin with active asana to help warm up the body and help it release some of the pent up stress. Then we move into long holds using bolsters and other props. This kind of practice is deeply soothing for the nervous system, and done regularly will help your healing. Our busy lives leave us little time to truly recharge, and this class is a modality to aid that deeply needed restoration and rejuvenation. These classes are in the Iyengar tradition as well as refinements from Aadil and Savitri by including poetry and meditation.

Zoom Yoga Classes

Online via Zoom I can teach small groups of four to eight via zoom. Due to the nature of this online medium, classes will be mat classes only with students bringing their own props. A block, belt and bolster will be needed as props. Keeping the class size small will help me scan each student and offer verbal cues for alignment and safety. We will be able to work effectively and safely even though online. 

Private Yoga Classes

I can work with an individual student towards their goals. Whether they need to open and strengthen or help heal a condition I can offer my expertise. I can offer help with yoga therapy for various conditions like high blood pressure, asthma, digestive issues, musculoskeletal conditions, depression or anxiety. 

Group Classes

I can teach a group of up to four with social distancing. Students will have all props and mats and need only to bring themselves. A family or a small group that arrives in one car is preferred to reduce the traffic through my neighborhood. We will use the wall rope system and many props. I will be able to offer hands on adjustments as well as verbal cues.

The Studio

A home studio which is a beautiful, healing space set in the lap of nature. Amar Jyoti Yoga Studio offers an intimate space that is fully equipped as a yoga studio for classes and workshops.
